Product Description

Details

The Cabasset/Morion was a foot-soldier’s helmet from the 16th and 17th centuries that was popular throughout Europe, especially with pikemen. It was cheap to produce and was issued to soldiers on both sides of the English Civil War. This style of helmet was also popular with officers in the 16th century, who wore more richly decorated and embellished versions. Cabassets/Morions were worn by Conquistadors in South America during the 16th century and the settlers in North America a century later.

Our English Civil War Cabasset/Morion is crafted from 14 gauge steel with a 16 gauge brim, making is great for re-enactment. It features an adjustable linen liner and adjustable leather chin strap.

Steel thickness may vary due to the handcrafted methods used in its manufacture.

The helmet weighs around 2kg and is pretty comfortable if you can get it to sit right.
One problem I found was that the helmet has a tendency to dig into your forehead if you tilt it back, meaning a completely horizontal fit is what I found the most comfortable.

My head circumference is about 60cm, which left some room for my woolen hood to work as padding, which was nice. The helmet sits pretty deep on my head, which means I lose some upward and peripheral visibility, but nothing major. I have worn this helmet to several team battles and I quite like it :) (Posted on 01/02/2019)
