This armour is created by Marto in the ancient sword manufacturing city of Toledo in Spain. Swords have been manufactured in Toledo since Roman times but it was during the Reconquista that its guild of sword-makers played a key role. Between the 15th and 17th centuries, Toledan swords were considered to be the best in Europe and the prized possessions of any knights and nobles that were able to afford them.
This piece is inspired by the 16th century suits of armour that belonged to Charles V and Phillip II of Spain that are on display in the Royal Armoury Museum, Madrid. It is crafted in polished steel with deeply etched floral scrollwork patterns. Around half of the surface area is plated with 24k gold. It features leather straps, decorative fabric skirt and comes assembled on a wooden display stand on a varnished wooden base. It comes complete with a Charles V sword modelled on an original now preserved in the Armeria Real, Madrid.
This armour is designed for display only, and whilst some of the joints are articulated to allow for a variety of poses, it is not designed to be worn.
Ships in a large box and is delivered partially assembled. Some simple assembly is required.
