Windlass Steelcrafts

The Knight Shop is a distributor for Windlass Steelcrafts and the premier retailer of Windlass Swords for sale in the UK. Windlass Swords (Windlass Steelcrafts), are based in India and are one of the oldest sword manufacturers still in production. They were established in 1943 to supply kukris to the British Army. Over the decades they have expanded to become one of the largest suppliers of military swords in the world. They are also well known for making high quality licensed replicas of swords, armour and historical clothing seen in Hollywood movies.

Their swords are forged from high quality, high carbon steel and tempered with the most advanced heat treating process available. They are flexible, well balanced and lightweight making them ideal for practicing historical swordplay techniques. Windlass Swords are durable and are either of threaded or peened construction with the tang forged as part of the blade. They are blunt and have a 1mm edge although sharpening service is available on these swords.

  • Wooden Roman Gladius (Rudis)

    1 Review(s)

PLEASE NOTE: NO WARRANTY IS OFFERED WITH THIS PRODUCT. IF YOUR WASTER BREAKS, NO REPLACEMENT WILL BE OFFERED AS THE MANUFACTURER WILL NOT SUPPLY US WITH A REPLACEMENT. IF YOU WANT A MORE DURABLE WASTER PLEASE PURCHASE OUR SYNTHETIC SPARRING SWORDS.

The gladius was the sword of choice for the Roman legions, and many gladiators also chose to use the double-edged sword when they were fighting for their freedom and lives in the Colosseum. After a gladiator in ancient Rome had won his freedom, he was awarded a wooden gladius like this one, called a Rudis, as a symbol of his freedom. Our Rudis is a great retirement gift for military personnel or police officers.

Our training gladius is based on the classic Roman gladius and made entirely of hardwood. The pommel and guard are darker for visual interest. If you plan to use this wooden gladius as a training sword, be careful: the blade is made of wood but it does have a sharp point.

  • Cold Steel Gladius Synthetic Training Sword

Romans used dull wooden swords to train their Gladiators and soldiers. And Japanese Samurai used a wooden training sword that was called a Bokken. It's an elegant solution to a vexing problem and effective enough to still be used today. The only problem is that a wooden sword can rot, crack, chip or splinter and eventually become useless.

Cold Steel designed a synthetic substitute, low in price and impervious to the elements. The Cold Steel line of Training Weapons are made of the heaviest grade polypropylene available and closely duplicate a real sword in length, size, weight and feel. While they're not quite as rigid as wood, they have the winning advantages of being virtually unbreakable, remarkably stiff and cut resistant.

  • Sgian Dubh

The sgian dubh or Scottish black knife became fashionable in the mid-1700s. It is also called a Scottish sock knife because people carried them in their hose or boots. They were forced to conceal the weapons they secretly kept.

This traditional sgian dubh features a black wooden grip with a basketweave pattern that is shaped for grasping, and comes with its own scabbard. The blade has the filework characteristic of Scottish edged weapons, and the hilt is decorated with a thistle motif.
