  • Musketeer Rapier

The musket, though the prime weapon of the French Musketeers, was a cumbersome firearm, both to load and fire. A good rapier was a necessary second weapon. Our Musketeer rapier is fashioned after those circa 1590. The basket hilt is ambidextrous and a very effective mix of both the cup-hilt and swept-hilt styles. The grip is wood wrapped with twisted wire and the parts of the hilt are plated with gleaming nickel silver.

  • Gustavus Adolphus II Rapier

The hilt of our Gustavus Adolphus II Rapier is very similar to the one used by the legendary Swedish king. The artfully sweeping cup with an openwork, floral patterned base is especially distinctive. The blade is unusually narrow for a rapier and it makes this a surprisingly quick, pleasantly lightweight, and deadly weapon. The textured grip is made of wood wound with black wire. A ring of twisted copper-coloured wire separates the grip from the pear-shaped pommel at the top and the quillons at the bottom. Comes complete with scabbard.

  • Swept Hilt Rapier (Hardwood Grip)

    Swept Hilt Rapier (Hardwood Grip)

This Swept-Hilt Rapier features classical lines, with a high-carbon steel flex-tempered blade, a stainless steel hilt (for reduced maintenance) and a hardwood grip. The hilt is of the same size as the museum piece on which it is based, providing an authentic “feel” in the user’s hand and weight and balance also match originals. The blade is interchangeable with our “Practical” blade (OH2255) which is designed for safety in rapier sparring. The matching Main Gauche (SH2198) may also be equipped with a sparring blade.

Our Renaissance-style Rapiers trace their origins to early 17th century Europe, where swordplay with the Rapier was considered an essential part of a gentleman’s education and was often used in resolving gentlemanly disagreements. Blades generally originated in one of the blade making centers such as Toledo or Solingen, but many differences in styling and hilt materials resulted from the local manufacture of hilts all over Europe.

The Main Gauche, or left hand dagger, was often used with the rapier, providing an added dimension in both offense and defense, and the “Schools of Fence” which proliferated in Europe during this period taught the use of the two weapons in combination. The Main Gauche would often match the Rapier in styling, while incorporating features which maximized the effectiveness of the piece.Replacement blades, both live and blunt (for sparring), are available for most of the Rapiers and Main Gauches.

  • Deschaux Rapier

A weapon unequalled in elegance and grace: the classic French rapier. The slender, double-edged blade determines the character of this classic rapier, whose ricasso elegantly becomes narrower inside the basket. But the complex basket with its sweeping finger guard is not the only special feature this classic rapier has to offer: the grip is bordered by braided steel wire on both sides. The grip itself is made of horn wrapped with golden wire for a stunning effect.

When used with a French parrying dagger, this classic rapier forms part of a deadly set that was especially appreciated by duellists. Our classic French rapier comes with its own scabbard.

  • Classical Swept Hilt Rapier

Exceptional not only for its exquisite beauty, this rapier is reproduced from an original in the collection of Hank Reinhardt. This sword shows off one of the more graceful and sublime designs from a period when no two swords were made exactly alike. (There were often tremendous differences between rapiers because of varying amounts of skill of the blade maker, the hilt maker, and the cutler who assembled them.) This particular swept-hilt design, which is truly a work-of-art, was in use for over a hundred years. Made by Windlass Steelcrafts, this light, fast and quick rapier uses a high carbon steel blade. Scabbard included. This weapon is featured in Deadly Duels.

    Total length: 1140 cm
    Blade length: 93 cm
    Weight: 0.95 kg
    Blade thickness (base): 4.8 mm
    Blade width (base): 1.95 cm
Point of Balance (PoB): 11 cm
