  • MH Kettle Hat - 14 gauge

The Kettle Hat was favoured by the English infantryman and man at arms throughout the medieval period and was popular during the 100 Years War. It was simple to manufacture and offered good protection against projectiles. This design was so effective that it came back into service with the British military in World War 1 and 2. The name derives from the Germanic word “cetel” or “cietel” alluding to its deep cauldron like shape. It was also known as a “war hat” and “Chapel-de-fer” (hat of iron).

Made of 2mm steel. Steel thickness may vary due to the handcrafted methods used in its manufacture. The steel is untreated and may have rust. To protect the steel you may rub it with mineral or synthetic oil.
    Leather chin strap included.

  • T Face Barbute - 14 gauge - Large

    1 Review(s)

The T-face barbute (barbuta in Italian) was developed in Italy during the 15th century. These helmets were popular throughout Europe and offered an alternative to the more restrictive sallet. The extended sides protected the neck and jaw, dispensing with the need for a separate bevor or gorget. Our T-faced barbute replicates the helmet of the ‘Avant’ armour housed at the Kelvingrove Museum, Glasgow and is crafted in 14 gauge steel with an adjustable leather liner and chinstrap. Perfect for re-enactment.

  • Late Transitional Sallet - 14 gauge

Near to the end of 15th-century, sallets began a transformation into the shapes known as "transitional". This replica is based on a piece known as A72 from the Wallace Collection dated on 1520 and is attributed to have been manufactured in the north of Italy. It was likely used with a gorget without bevor and belonged to the collection of the Count of Nieuwerkerke, and acquired by Sir Richard Wallace in 1871. This style of sallet can be seen in the painting by Eugène Emmanuel Viollet-le-Duc in his piece “Castles and Warfare in the Middle Ages”.

Made of 2mm steel with a 1.6mm steel faceplate. Steel thickness may vary due to the handcrafted methods used in its manufacture. The steel is untreated and may have rust. To protect the steel you may rub it with a mineral or synthetic oil. Leather chin strap included.

  • Archer's Sallet - 14 gauge - Large

As with the bellows face sallet it is not clear at first glance why this helmet is a sallet and not a bascinet with a very low reaching neck protection. The difference lies in the brow plate (reinforcement on the forehead) which is only found on sallets. This Archer’s Helmet was especially popular with bowman. It is hand-beaten out of 14 gauge steel, welded and polished to finish. Perfect for re-enactment. Features adjustable leather liner and chin strap.

  • Armet with Gorget - 12 & 14 gauge

Typical armets are made up of four pieces: a skull with a reinforced forehead, two cheek plates attached with hinges to the skull and a pointed visor. Cheek plates were closed by a pin and this was secured with a hook or metallic wire. As it was made almost in the exact shape of the neck and chin was necessary to develop a side opening system to allow the easy removal of this helmet.
