  • Kettle Hat

    1 Review(s)

The Kettle Hat was favoured by the English infantryman and man at arms throughout the medieval period and was popular during the 100 Years War. It was simple to manufacture and offered good protection against projectiles. This design was so effective that it came back into service with the British military in World War 1 and 2. The name derives from the Germanic word “cetel” or “cietel” alluding to its deep cauldron like shape. It was also known as a “war hat” and “Chapel-de-fer” (hat of iron).

Our Kettle Hat is constructed from 18 gauge steel and features and adjustable leather liner and chin strap. Not recommended for contact re-enactment but great for LARP, theatre or as a display piece.

    Internal Circumference: 65cm
    Weight: 1600g

  • English Sallet - 18 gauge

Our English Sallet is based on the Coventry Sallet, a surviving original from the 15th century currently on display in the Herbert Art Gallery and Museum in Coventry. This helmet was made during the period of the Wars of the Roses, most likely by an Italian armourer working in England, and is made in the English style. Very few pieces of English made armour survive from this period and the Coventry Sallet is believed to be the only example of its type in England.

This sallet is hand crafted from polished steel and features a (pin locked) hinged visor that can be raised for better vision. The back and sides of the helmet feature rows of decorative rivets and the inside is lined with an adjustable leather spider with adjustable leather chin strap.

  • War of the Roses Archer's Helmet

This helmet is of the type known as an archer's helm. This shape was commonly seen during the Wars of the Roses in England from 1455 to 1485. The rounded top and flared neck guard provided protection from missiles coming from above, while the wide face opening allowed for the unimpeded vision necessary for an accurate aim. This premium helmet features an attached liner and chin-strap in natural leather. Reproduced in steel, it is fully wearable by most adults.
