Greek Corinthian Helmet - Antiqued Brass
The Corinthian Helmet originated in ancient Greece and took its name from the city-state of Corinth. It was depicted in Greek sculpture more than any other helmet – romantically associated with the glories of the past. The Greek goddess Athena, is frequently depicted wearing a Corinthian style helmet. The Corinthian Helmet afforded excellent protection for its wearer but was both expensive to make and uncomfortable to wear. It also restricted hearing and vision and gradually gave way to a more open-faced but less protective style of helmet.

Italo-Norman Helmet - 18 gauge
The Normans were descended from the Viking raiders that settled in Northern France. Norman comes from the Medieval Latin "Northman/Norseman" meaning Viking. The Normans invaded England in 1066 and defeated the Anglo-Saxons at the Battle of Hastings. They began the conquest of Sicily in 1061 and completed it in 1091 with total dominance over the island.
The Norman "Nasal" Helmet was based on earlier Viking Helmet designs and could be worn over a chainmail coif or with chainmail aventail to protect the neck. The nasal bar was designed to protect the face but meant that Knights were often unrecognisable. The famous Bayeux Tapestry shows William the Conqueror tipping his helmet back to reveal his face and prove to his soldiers that he was still alive!
Our Italo-Norman Helmet is constructed from polished 18 gauge steel and features an adjustable leather liner and buckled leather chin strap. Not recommended for contact re-enactment.
