  • Phrygian Nasal Helm - 14 gauge

    The Norman "Nasal" Helmet was based on earlier Viking Helmet designs and could be worn over a chainmail coif or with chainmail aventail to protect the neck. The nasal bar was designed to protect the face but meant that Knights were often unrecognisable. The famous Bayeux Tapestry shows William the Conqueror tipping his helmet back to reveal his face and prove to his soldiers that he was still alive!

    Made of 2mm steel with nasal of 3mm steel. Steel thickness may vary due to the handcrafted methods used in its manufacture. Leather chin strap included.

  • Aged Norman Helmet

    The Normans spread to England, Sicily and parts of Italy as mounted warriors, known for their long mail hauberks, kite shields and conical helmets. This type of slightly curving, forward peaked helmet is the second most recognized form. The conical shape allows blows to slide off while the face was provided with some protection from the nasal piece which still allowed great vision. Made of carbon steel with an aged and pitted finish. Includes an adjustable leather liner.

  • Saint Wenceslaus I Nasal Helmet -14 gauge

    This helmet was made after the one kept on the Prague Castle who supposedly belonged to Saint Wenceslaus I, a Czech monarch from the early 10th century. This is one of the earliest conical helmets made in one piece that at the time where starting to substitute the comparatively weaker Spangenhelms. Without any doubt is remarkable its beautiful riveted cross-shaped nasal. Meanwhile its decoration is sometimes wrongly related to Odin it’s more probably that corresponds to a conventionalized Christian cross representation. Even though the nasal is richly decorated on the original, we offer a clean version for you to make your own customizations. This is the perfect protection from the wealthy warriors from the 10th c. onwards.

    Our Saint Wenceslaus I Nasal Helmet is constructed from 14 gauge steel making it perfect from most re-enactment groups. It features an adjustable padded liner and buckled leather chin strap.

  • Horse Lords Helmet

    Our Horse Lords helmet is based on the helmets mounted nomadic archers wore on the Eurasian steppes in ancient and medieval times - but bears a striking resemblance to those worn by the Riders or Rohan in The Lord of the Rings. The bowl of the helmet is made of coated steel and the nose guard is made of antiqued brass. Our Horse Lords' Helmet has a protective aventail at the back, and the decorative crest is made of genuine horsehair. You can adjust the leather liner to make the helmet more comfortable to wear, and you can fasten it securely under your chin using the leather strap and buckle. Regardless of what the horse is doing, this helmet will stay on every mounted archer's head! Made from 18 gauge carbon steel.

  • Viking Spangenhelm - 16 gauge

    Mainstays of the Viking era, Spangenhelms are characterized by their construction, whereby steel strips (spangen) are used to join the steel plates of the cap. For strength and safety, the cap of our reconstruction is virtually one-piece, comprised of two halves, welded together along a back to front centre line. Steel rivets are used to attach the overlying banding and 3mm. straight nose-guard (nasal). It is crafted in 16 gauge steel making it great for re-enactment. Comes complete with full leather liner and chinstrap

    After the Spangenhelm fell into disuse, helmets like this one came into warfare. They were known as conical or nasal helmets and these ones had a one piece skull protection. We can see plenty of depictions that features these helmets, like the “never failing” Maciejowski Bible.

  • MH Spangenhelm - 16 gauge

    This helmet comes from a small group of closely related Spangenhelms (strap helmets). The sites where they have been found are widely scattered, ranging from Sweden to Germany, the Balkans and Libya. The Spangenhelm was a popular medieval European combat helmet design of Late Antiquity and the Early Middle Ages. Over time Spangenhelms were replaced by one piece skulls like nasal helmets and kettle hats.

    1.6mm steel with 1.4mm steel strips and natural canvas lining. Steel thickness may vary due to the handcrafted methods used in its manufacture. Leather chin strap included.

  • Italo-Norman Helmet - 18 gauge

    The Normans were descended from the Viking raiders that settled in Northern France. Norman comes from the Medieval Latin "Northman/Norseman" meaning Viking. The Normans invaded England in 1066 and defeated the Anglo-Saxons at the Battle of Hastings. They began the conquest of Sicily in 1061 and completed it in 1091 with total dominance over the island.
