  • Jack Chains - 14 gauge

    Jack Chains were an important part of the protective equipment of the medieval foot soldier who, typically, was not dressed in plate armour but wore a padded arming jacket (jack) to protect his upper body.

    These 14 Gauge, fully articulated Jack Chains tied or sewn to the arms to provide protection from slashing cuts. Modern studies have indicated that these chains prevented up to 80% of potential arm injuries. Jack Chains are an important accessory for our AB0158W Arming Jacket.

  • Phrygian Nasal Helm - 14 gauge

    The Norman "Nasal" Helmet was based on earlier Viking Helmet designs and could be worn over a chainmail coif or with chainmail aventail to protect the neck. The nasal bar was designed to protect the face but meant that Knights were often unrecognisable. The famous Bayeux Tapestry shows William the Conqueror tipping his helmet back to reveal his face and prove to his soldiers that he was still alive!

  • English Bascinet - 14 gauge

    The bascinet was one of the most commonly used helmets amongst cavalry and infantry from 1300 until approximately 1420. This type of helmet can be seen in a number of artistic representations, where the entire formations of soldiers would wear this kind of helmet.

  • Saint Wenceslaus I Nasal Helmet -14 gauge - Large

    This helmet was made after the one kept on the Prague Castle who supposedly belonged to Saint Wenceslaus I, a Czech monarch from the early 10th century. This is one of the earliest conical helmets made in one piece that at the time where starting to substitute the comparatively weaker Spangenhelms. Without any doubt is remarkable its beautiful riveted cross-shaped nasal. Meanwhile its decoration is sometimes wrongly related to Odin it’s more probably that corresponds to a conventionalized Christian cross representation. Even though the nasal is richly decorated on the original, we offer a clean version for you to make your own customizations. Without any doubt this is the perfect protection from the wealthy warriors from the 10th c. onwards.

    Our Saint Wenceslaus I Nasal Helmet is constructed from 14 gauge steel making it perfect from most re-enactment groups. It features an adjustable padded liner and buckled leather chin strap.

  • Early Bascinet with Visor - 14 gauge

    Bascinets were one of the favourite choices of helmet in the 14th century and 15th century. It was probably an evolution of the cabasset used under the helmet by both cavalry and infantry. Some variations of this item were used with coif instead of aventail.  This design is based on several artistic representations dating from the first quarter of the 14th century and is common in the Spanish peninsula. Its pyramidal grill system in the visor offers an excellent defence as well as an optimal vision. The visor is foldable and has a pin system that allows a quick unmount if needed.

  • MH Kettle Hat - 14 gauge

    The Kettle Hat was favoured by the English infantryman and man at arms throughout the medieval period and was popular during the 100 Years War. It was simple to manufacture and offered good protection against projectiles. This design was so effective that it came back into service with the British military in World War 1 and 2. The name derives from the Germanic word “cetel” or “cietel” alluding to its deep cauldron like shape. It was also known as a “war hat” and “Chapel-de-fer” (hat of iron).
