This Confederate Officer Saber is basically the Southern version of the "M1850 Army Staff and Field Officers Sword." Sabers like this one were very popular with soldiers on both sides of the Mason-Dixon Line during the American Civil War (1861-1865).
Decorative on both sides, the saber's blade is its special feature. Below the ricasso, the Confederate Officer Saber is etched with a very decorative arabesque pattern that frames the inscription "C.S.A.," crossed cannons, and a Confederate flag. The etched design is exactly as long as the wide, flat fuller and from the design to the point of our Confederate Officer Saber, the single-edged blade is sharpened on both sides. Held in place by a riveted pommel, the wooden grip covered in leather is wrapped with twisted, golden wire and features an opulently decorated hand guard. A matching scabbard made of genuine leather with a golden chape and throat and two rings for attaching it to a frog comes with the Confederate Officer Saber.
