In the early days of the Roman Republic, greaves were part of every legionary's standard equipment, even if they sometimes had to make do with protection for one leg only. Centurions in the Imperial army were the only ones who wore greaves – to make an imposing impression rather than protect their shins.
Our Roman Greaves are made of steel and are based on the ones a number of figures on famous Trajan's Column in Rome are wearing. Open at the calves, they lace around your lower legs using the brass rings at the sides. A hinged cap is attached to each knee for separate protection.
