In addition to the large shield ("aspis"), his standard equipment included a lance with a steel tip and a sword with a steel blade - if the lance broke.

I have two of these for dual wielding. The low weight enables surprising nimbleness while the leaf profile ensures authority on contact.
It is just so easy to get these swords exactly where you want them - especially for blocking (including those split second panic blocks when I'm fooled by feints).

The build and finish are as you would expect from windlass - no frills but dependable.

In short: something real hoplites would probably have desired, if not fought over.
