This Francesca axe is a beautiful example of a Frankish weapon used during the earlier part of the Middle Ages. An axe like this was also carried by Germanic armies into battle and was used in hand-to-hand combat, as well as a lethal throwing weapon. Our version, manufactured by Windlass Steelcrafts, has a rustic forge finish on the blade and the curved wooden shaft, making this feel great in your hand.

The Francisca so named for its Frankish origins, was used by the Vikings both as a throwing weapon and for close-quarters combat. Its graceful lines are legendary but the upswept point and downturned edge were both capable of penetrating chain mail. Our Francisca features a forged head with an antiqued finish and a swelled-end hardwood shaft for secure head retention.

Our Professional Throwing Axe (Angel) is basically a cross between a throwing axe and throwing knife – and represents the best of both worlds! They are incredibly nice to throw making them perfect for beginners and seasoned throwers alike. They also don’t have the downside of broken shafts associated with traditional throwing axes. The axe head and spike are unsharpened and the handle is comfortable in the hand. The best bit is, they are made in Sheffield, England by one of the most prestigious knife makers in the UK.
