T Face Barbute - 14 gauge - Large

£88.25

The T-face barbute (barbuta in Italian) was developed in Italy during the 15th century. These helmets were popular throughout Europe and offered an alternative to the more restrictive sallet. The extended sides protected the neck and jaw, dispensing with the need for a separate bevor or gorget. Our T-faced barbute replicates the helmet of the ‘Avant’ armour housed at the Kelvingrove Museum, Glasgow and is crafted in 14 gauge steel with an adjustable leather liner and chinstrap. Perfect for re-enactment.

I've been trying out a few helmets, from sallets, coppergate helmets to crusader helmets.
Most of these have the issue of bad sight, clammy, and very claustrophobic, while the barbute, with it's semi-open face, removes these problems.
I've worn it for hours, without feeling claustrophobic. or clammy!
The biggest problem I have with it, is that you get a little tired in the neck, but that's not that bad, TBH.

So, if you want a good helmet, get this! It was my first, and it's still my favourite. (Posted on 16/07/2018)
