Product Description

Renaissance Longsword (ca. 1500)

Circa 1450

The longsword, often called a hand-and-half, saw a great deal of service as a weapon of war, but was also employed a great deal as a civilian weapon of self-defense. Coupled with a dagger, the longsword was an excellent defense against robbers, thieves, footpads, assassins and even some of the robber bands that might roam the countryside. A good serviceable point allowed it to be used for thrusting, and a medium weight allowed it to be used easily and carried with equal ease. This weight also allowed it to be used with one hand with a dagger in the other. But when needed, it could be gripped with both hands for a very powerful cut. This is a beautiful and very functional sword with steel pommel and guard.  The grip is wood wrapped with leather and wire. Includes Scabbard.

the perfect sword to start your collection!Review by kyle
i want to start by saying this was my first ever sword, and i spent a long time researching into swords, craftsmen and shops and where i should buy from and what to look for.

if youre looking to start collecting swords like myself, i dont think i could recommend another that offers such great quality for the price it is being sold at!

i had always been attracted to ring hilted swords and this item became available so i took my chance and purchased it because i really fancied it, i was extremely impressed by the speed of the delivery, just almost 3 days! i was shocked especially being that its almost christmas. 5* for delivery/shipping!

straight out of the box i was blown away by the looks of this sword, i knew i liked the look of it from the pictures but seeing it in person is absolutely beautiful! a piece of art. i cleaned it up and gave it a good polish and i did notice some faint scratches here and there along the blade, whether that was from the factory or somewhere else i do not know but it doesnt seem anything to worry about as its only very minor and hardly noticeable. it doesnt bother me too much anyway.

because its my first sword i decided to buy it BLUNT for my own safety and for anybody elses in the house, should they decide that they want to pick it up. so yes it is blunt, however it still comes with quite a sharp point on the end that could easily injure somebody, or yourself! so if you do decided this is the first sword for you be very careful :)

it feels wonderful in the hands, thanks to its light weight coupled with the half leather half wire grip! its very easy to hold and maneuver around and the pommel also feels comfortable in the off hand too. my one and only concern is that the centre of balance feels a little far from the hilt for my liking, it just makes it ever so slightly harder to wield when you want to perform a quick snappy cut or thrust. but still with a little practice and time to get used to the sword im sure it would be much less of an issue. this is the first time ive held anything that feels like what i imagine a real sword would feel like so either way im impressed and cant knock it.

also i had read on other websites that people werent too impressed with the production of the sword with things like the stitching on the grip being messy and the wire wrap on the handle just being kinda cut off and messily shoved into the end of the grip or the fuller being off centre, but mine arrived looking perfect the steel wrap looks expertly done not a sign of anything messy its very neatly wrapped and cut off, the stitching is also very neat and tidy and i think everything looks right in line, it looks great, i had also heard of people saying they had rattling with their sword too but everything seems in perfect new condition so dont fret if youre looking into reviews of this sword and theyre making you unsure, it really is great and is pretty much faultless in terms of production and quality! (at least thats what i would say, i am a newb afterall though so its to you to decide)

I cant see anything wrong with this sword and have not found a single thing to complain about, it looks beautiful, it feels beautiful to handle and its a fantastic place to start if you are looking to start collecting. i would without a doubt happily recommend it to anybody whos new to swords :)

also when i needed help with making my purchase the customer service was fast and helpful so overall yeah im impressed, thanks theknightshop for my amazing new sword, and i hope this review helped anybody who has been looking at this sword! (Posted on 07/12/2016)
