The cord wrapped leather grip has an oval cross section and slight barrel shape to keep fatigue at bay. The grip is large enough to accommodate armoured hands. A respectable fuller runs the length of both pieces to lighten and counter balance the sword overall. The blade is forged from 9260 high carbon spring steel and is tempered to around 50 Hrc. The sword is supplied with a wood core and leather wrapped scabbard. The guard features the King-Peen system. King-Peen is essentially a steel tab on the guard under the grip that is pinned through the tang of the sword. This process keeps the guard from going loose after a lengthy campaign without compromising the strength of the hilt. The pommel is pressed into place and hot peened. Combine these two processes and you get a sword that rings like a bell when struck.

These latest additions to the Red Dragon Combat Range feature 3mm re-enactment safe edges and rounded tips. The blades are formed from tempered high-carbon steel and fullered to ensure they are swift in the hand. Indeed a lot of time and effort has gone into make these blades as agile as possible whilst retaining a re-enactment safe edge.

The steel hilt fittings neatly sandwich the leather wrapped wooden grip and are held in place by a traditional peened tang. The leather wrapped wooden scabbard features a protective rain guard and metal chape. The latest addition to the Red Dragon Combat range of swords is our Oakeshott XIV Sword. It is a replica of an original that is currently on display in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.

Oakeshott describes it as being “an absolutely outstanding sword, not only because of its condition but by reason of its splendid proportions and great size. It dates from around the first quarter of the 14^th century and is remarkably similar to sword found on the body of Sancho IV el Bravo of Castile in Toledo Cathedral.
