  • Practical Tantō

The Practical Series (SH1070 Katana, SH2061 Wakisashi, & SH2254 Tantō) represent our most popular set, offering excellent quality at a great price. The blades are hand-forged high-carbon steel and are differentially tempered using a traditional claying method to produce a HRC60 on the edge (ha) and a HRC40 on the back (mune) with a medium (chu) kissaki. The temper line (hamon) is authentic and prominent. The fittings (koshirae) are superbly antiqued adding to the aesthetics of the set. The saya is done in a deep black lacquer and the sageo is black Japanese cotton.

Please note: Our range of katana, wakizashi and tantō are all made by hand and will feature the minor imperfections relating to this method of manufacture. This process ensures each piece is as unique as their historical counterparts. The main focus of the Practical Range is the blade. The fittings, although well made, do not have the same attention to detail found on more expensive lines. The Ito (handle wrap) may have a different number and proximity of diamonds to those shown in the picture.
