  • WWI M1916 'Avenger' French Fighting Knife

Every army needs a close-quarters weapon, even when it has guns because it’s inevitable that somebody’s going to end up within breathing distance of an enemy occasionally. This dagger was often dubbed “Le Vengeur de 1870”  (The Avenger of 1870), a wistful reference to the French loss to the Prussian Army in 1870. The design was simple and practical enough to last into WWII. Proving that the sincerest form of flattery is actually thievery, Germany confiscated large quantities of these knives when they defeated France and took them on their roadshow to Norway.

Originals now sometimes sell for over $250 on the antique weapons market. The blade design inspired the US M1918 Trench Knife (of course, with the addition of the famous “knuckle” grip). Like the originals, this stout replica has a 6-3/4″ blade and is 11″ overall. Steel scabbard replicates the original.

    Overall Length: 28cm
    Blade Length: 17cm
    Blade: High Carbon Steel
    Edge: Sharp

  • Battlecry Spanish Rapier

After hundreds of requests, Battlecry has added a classic rapier to the popular line of blackened, uniquely finished versions of history's great swords. This rapier features a very complex Spanish-style hilt and faceted pommel. The grip is hand-wound with blackened wire with woven wire rings on top and bottom.

The hand-forged, high carbon steel, fully tempered blade features a diamond cross-section to strengthen it for thrusting. Top-quality, genuine leather scabbard with deeply engraved floral pattern on the throat and tip. This type of sword was deadly effective as a dueling weapon. The 1065 high carbon steel has a darkened, battle-hardened finish, so it’s well protected from the frequent rust spots and stains that occur so often from everyday practice and exposure to the elements. The blade has an extra-wide tang and is tempering to a low 50s RC. The blade is thick for strength and peened to the pommel. This pre-sharpened blade has gone through rigorous testing.

The hands-on nature of the manufacturing by master smiths makes this line unique. Includes a certificate of authenticity signed by each smith that touched your blade through every step of the forging process.

  • French Infantry Artillery Short Sword (Glaive)

The French military based this sword on the famous and effective Roman Gladius, the standard short sword of the Roman Legionnaires. Originally issued in 1816, the solid brass hilt had a grip that resembled fish scales. When the sword was updated and reissued as the Model 1831, the grip was redesigned with a ringed pattern.

Although it could be used as a combat weapon in a pinch, it was primarily used as a machete to clear fields for guns. Because of its usefulness as an all-around tool, it gained a nick-name, “coupe-chou” (roughly translating to “cabbage cutter”). The Model 1831 remained in service until about 1870, and its design was adapted by the United States to create the Model 1832 Foot Artillery Sword.

This faithful replica is just like the originals, with a solid brass hilt and a scabbard with a brass tip and throat. Also includes belt frog. Provided with a sharpened edge.
