The Celts were a group of tribal societies in Iron Age and Medieval Europe. They settled in Britain in around 500 BC and flourished until the Romans invaded in 55 BC. The most famous Celtic Queen was Boudicca, Queen of the Iceni Tribe. She attacked London in AD 60 but was eventually defeated in battle. The Celtic Sword features and anthropomorphic hilt - the human form must have been intended to enhance the power of the owner and to bear a talismanic significance. The British Museum has some excellent examples of this style of sword in their collection.
Our Celtic Sword from Hanwei has an anthropomorphic hilt and leaf-shaped blade. It features a solid brass guard and pommel, a Macassar ebony grip and a high carbon spring steel blade. It comes complete with a well-made leather scabbard and is ideal for completing the Celtic persona.
Paul Chen swords are crafted in much the same way as swords were made centuries ago, except now the blades are forged from high-carbon spring steel. The blade finish is far from being polished, which more closely resembles what the medieval swordsmith was able to achieve. The blades is sharp and great for Living History and test cutting.
