Introducing the Heritage Series Classic Medieval Sword by Windlass! Windlass Steelcrafts® has reintroduced some of our all-time favorites with several upgrades!
The blade has improved distal taper, making the sword livelier and quicker. The scabbard now has a wooden core underneath the leather exterior. The grip features leather that is dimpled using a historically authentic “wet-wrap” process, during which fine cord is tightly wrapped around a wet leather grip. When it’s dry, the cord is removed and the leather is left attractively indented and provides improved texture and grip.
This simple, elegant type of sword was in service for a long period of time throughout all of Europe. This one-handed medieval sword is an Oakeshott Type X with a Type I pommel and a Type VII crossguard. The long and wide fuller on this high carbon steel blade lightens the overall sword and makes it possible to deliver fast, shearing cuts, capable of cutting through the mail and padding that were worn during the period. The long guard offers good protection from an opponent’s shield or blade, while the classic wheel pommel brings the sword very nicely into balance.
