The Close Helm first appeared in the 16th century and was still in use during the English Civil War in the 1640’s. Not long after this it was discarded in favour of lighter and cheaper helmets. It was popular both on the field of battle and in jousting tournaments. Some of the finest Close Helms to be crafted in England were made at King Henry VIII's Royal Almain Armoury in Greenwich.
Our Close Helm is constructed from 18 gauge steel and features a separate visor and bevor, both of which are hinged and can be raised and lowered. It has an adjustable leather spider liner and buckled leather chin strap. Not recommended for contact re-enactment but perfect for display or theatrical use.

- Solid Helmet, weird smellReview by Cal

Though whatever treatment was used on the inside of the helmet has given it a pretty foul smell, so wearing it for any extended period is difficult. Plus its the kind of smell that lingers in your nose. Seems to be dissipating over time but taking a WHILE.
Honestly though? For the price? Super happy with it. (Posted on 15/06/2023)
