Laced Gambeson - Natural

This style of gambeson has leather thong closures and is crafted in heavy-duty padded canvas. It has good blow-absorbing properties when worn separately and provides superior protection from cuts when worn under mail or plate.

This gambeson provides a good level of protection but is not as well padded as the GDFB equivalent. The armpits are open for extra manoeuvrability.

This is a fairly good gambeson, and excellent for the price.

The padding is a little light, so I would avoid using this for full contact sports, but for sparring with even blunt steel, it's absolutely fine. Even if you were to use it for full contact, it's still padded enough that you would just be very sore the next day, rather than broken.

The open armpits are nice. While it is a weak spot, it also gives superior mobility to a closed armpit design. Just make sure you remember how it's laced if you remove the arms. I did not and now putting them back on is hell. (Posted on 31/08/2021)
