Gothic Armour was a popular style of armour in England and Germany during the late 15th Century. It was influenced by the peaks and ridges of Gothic architecture and art of the period and by the 1480's it was considered to be the best armour in Europe. It was worn by knights and nobles on both sides in the Wars of the Roses where it afforded excellent protection against the arrow storms associated with the battles of this period.
Our Gothic Sallet is hand crafted from polished steel and features an articulated 'tail' that protects the neck without restricting movement. The visor is also hinged and can be lifted for better vision. The helmet is lined with an adjustable leather spider and features and adjustable leather chin strap.

I have an 'average head'(?), well it fit anyways and I did measure it originally. The inside has a leather part attached so that it can rest comfortably on your head. Though the actual helmet is quite weighty at first and does take a little getting used to (that's armour for you though).
The articulated back section is very nicely done, and the little design work is quite pretty.
There is no locking mechanism to keep the visor up, but if you push it far back enough and don't look down, it'll say for a bit.
The craftsmanship was a 7/10, the steel cuts had a few raw and imperfect edges, but nothing too dangerous. The actual helmet is slightly uneven too, but I only noticed this a lot on the visor, though for some reason it looks symmetrical and only noticeable when lifted. As a silver lining however: even real armour would have flaws and not be perfectly symmetrical due to how its made, it's odd to expect perfectly machine cut and measured pieces really.
I paired this particular helmet with a bevor, one from Marshall Historical bought from theknightshop, '14-15th Century Articulated Bevor - 14 gauge'. This bevor fits quite well, though at first when only wearing a tshirt, there was a clear gap between the helmet and bevor top, despite the helmet being a little wider to allow the bevor to fit underneath. However after putting on an equivalent of a padded jacket and chestplate of additional shoulder height, the bevor fit snugly under the helmet.
A large complaint, and only due to the absurdity of it being overlooked, is the leather strap for the chin. Its a long strap, great, and clasps well with a little extra padding for your chin. However, the holes punched in the strap seem to fit, either a hippo or Shrek. There just aren't enough holes punched in the strap where they're needed meaning I was a good inch away from the last hole to buckle to, and as such, can't tightly fit it. Fortunately, a leather puncher will fix this, so its a cheap solutoin, but one I shouldn't need to do. How this length issue wasn't spotted when the first person text fitted it - I don't know.
Another complaint, which probably is perfectly historically accurate, is that when moving and looking (with bevor on) the two pieces occasionally clash and rub on each other, causing a little metal rustle. Probably the bane of most knight's lives though.
Its very pretty, very wearable, and great for a first helmet or something budget friendly. Get it on a helmet stand or wear it for your selfies, all round happy customer. (Posted on 10/12/2020) - Great value for money Review by James

The segmented neck plates are beautifully done.
Fits reasonably well, doesn't wobble too much with no need for a secret helm.
The visor will not stay up though, however it does have a neat lock down system.
Works well with a Beavor. (Posted on 14/12/2016)
