- A great jacket - on balanceReview by Thomas

Quality Price Value
First of all the pros:
Its protection level is all round good. It feels like a tank, and you can take pretty solid hits and thrusts without bruising, or often even feeling it.
Its 800N.
It feels well made, with a tough double zip system, stitching and stiff wide collar. Some don't like the raised collar as it comes up quite high under the mask bib, but I think I'll take every little extra protection for my throat and back of neck. This is a preference thing, and the more it wears in the better it gets.
The back strap is great. Its a very heavy jacket no doubt, but with a well adjusted back strap the weight disappears onto your hips. This really helps with mobility.
The shoulders are similar in design to the AP and have freedom to move just as well. I can go into high Tag comfortably with no ride-up.
The Cons:
This jacket is reeeeally heavy. Consequently it can get hot. The shoulder and back padding is also restrictive to movement, and I felt a thousand times better with them taken out. (Which is thankfully easy to do due to the design).
The forearm protection is generally good but the splint-like plates in the forearm do not give complete protection. I have taken a steel hit to the forearm that missed the plates and gave me a fairly bad bruise. No biggie, but for the cost, I'd expect more efficient design. As it stands I am putting my own cut-to-fit ABS plates in to help with the coverage.
Conclusion:
Its a well made jacket, with good protection and by no means bad mobility (once some padding is removed). For an off the peg, non-customised jacket it fits me well (a medium height, medium build male) and is comfortable once worn in a little. My one major gripe is the price. If it were say, £50 more expensive than the AP I would recommend it to all. However seeing as I am having to tweak it to fit and replace some parts to get the required protection, with the price as high as it is, I can't give it a full 5 stars. Will I buy this again when it wears out? Very likely.
