Although greaves were used since antiquity, cuisses and poleyns were very much a development of the medieval period. The development of protection for the upper thighs meant that longer shields, and indeed shields altogether as the body became more encased in plate, became obsolete amongst the knightly classes.
Our Milanese Cuisses from GDFB feature three buckled attachment points with outstanding articulation and will complement any 15th. Century style harness. They are crafted in 16 gauge steel making them great for re-enactment.
Steel thickness may vary due to the handcrafted methods used in its manufacturing.
