Details
The Roman Legionary carried 3 types of weapon. The Gladius (sword), Pugio (dagger) and Pilum (javelin). Before engaging, the pilum was thrown into the massed ranks of the enemy. It would either find its mark and maim or kill the unlucky recipient – or become deeply embedded in their shield, rendering it useless in battle.
Our (square) pilum is a faithful replica of those carried by Roman Legionaries of the 3rd century. The wooden shaft is slightly thicker than the originals – allowing it to be reused! The hand-forged head is packed separately and is socketed into the shaft – held firm by three pins. It is perfect for re-enactment, theatrical use or a great display piece.
