The Pugio was a soldier's dagger that was used as a sidearm by Roman Legionaries and Auxiliaries at the time of the Roman Conquest of Britain. It seems likely that is was designed predominantly as a thrusting weapon in much the same way as the larger 'Gladius' sword. It is understood that Pugio daggers were used in the assassination of Julius Caesar. This well-made replica is hand forged from steel and features a leather lined sheath with brass fittings and a sandwiched horn and steel hilt that is often found on surviving pieces. Its authentic design and blunt blade make it a favourite amongst Roman reenactors.
