Utilizing a special steel formulation and heat treatment regimen developed by Hanwei, the blade optimizes edge hardness and body toughness, ideal characteristics in a cutting sword. The elegantly simple steel fittings reinforce the sword`s mission, providing uncluttered lines while still remaining true to tradition. Scott M. Rodell`s martial arts career includes over 25 years of training in Yang Style Taijiquan. He has trained under several noted Chinese masters, in both the U.S. and China. He is the founding Director of the Great River Taoist Center, headquartered in Washington D.C. with branches across the U.S., Russia, Estonia, Netherlands, Germany and Australia. Rodell is the author of "Chinese Swordsmanship, the Yang Family Taiji Jian Tradition" and "A Practical Guide to Test Cutting for Historical Swordsmanship", both of which are highly recommended.

This is a modern take on Ming dynasty jian designs, by a renowned martial artist for practical cutting usage. The design is simple and elegant, and the construction is reassuringly solid, though with just a slight rattle if you strike the guard. The blade is straight and true, tapered with good distal taper for great handling. The blade finish isn't highly polished - but this is meant to be a practical cutting sword. In test cutting, effortlessly cuts PE milk bottles, and (with correct technique) PET soda bottles. Edge has clamshell geometry and is sharp but not over-sharp. Scabbard wood is attractive and flawless and the fittings are simple and solid. The blade slots snugly into the scabbard with exactly the right level of resistance. The leather-bound grip is reassuringly grippy and has room for hand-and-a-half techniques. Love it! (Posted on 04/06/2021)Value Quality Price
