Greaves were used from early antiquity to protect the lower legs. The large shields used by the Ancient Greeks and Romans meant that the lower legs became a primary target for assailants! Plate greaves fell out of use during the Dark Ages where more flexible chainmail chausses were often preferred. However, during the later Medieval period, plate armour again found favour and knights wore fully encasing plate greaves to protect the lower legs.
Our Italian Greaves are made in the Milanese style of the 15th Century and are hand crafted from 16 gauge steel making them great for re-enactment.
Steel thickness may vary due to the handcrafted methods used in its manufacture.

- Greaves should be tailored, but this is a fine cheaper alternative.Review by Tommy

I myselfe got these because i do horseback riding in armour on medievalfares, and needen a pair of greaves to complete my armour. Meaning i did not need that much movement. Still i ended up having to drill open the rivets on the hinges to then rivet them further back on the backplate to make them fit even though my mesurments fits the description. (Posted on 25/10/2018)
