  • Templar Surcoat

    1 Review(s)

One of the purposes of Surcoats was to identify the wearer as a knight. Unlike those worn by Templar Sergeants, these surcoats were white with a cross in the chest. Other uses of the surcoat was to protect knights from the inclemency of the weather since crusader knights got suffocated because of overheating of their chainmail. It´s known that surcoats even saved the lives of their wearers as it is said in a chronicle that an arrow wound up in the cloth which slowed down its speed.

  • Templar Sergeant Overcoat Black

One of the purposes of overcoats was to identify the wearer as a knight. The Templar Order sergeants used to wear a black coat with red cross. Due to the Templar´s rules, the cross should be visible in both sides to identify sergeants from other orders members.

Other uses of the overcoat were to protect knights from the inclemency of the weather as crusader knights sometimes suffocated because of the overheating of their chainmail. It´s known that overcoats even saved the life of their wearer as it is said in the chronicle that narrates how an arrow wound up in the cloth which slowed down its speed.

  • Lionheart Tabard

Three white lions on a red background (lions for courage, red for bravery in battle): Norman King Richard I, who ruled England from 1189 until 1199, introduced this coat of arms. Countless legends exist about the ruler known as Richard Lionheart, but forsooth: he was only in England for 10 months during his entire reign and might not even have been able to speak English.

In any case, he is one of the most dazzling figures of the Middle Ages and this splendid tabard would have suited him well. The deep red cotton velveteen tabard with yellow lions is the perfect complement to the armour of the period. It is slit at the lower front and back so it stays out of the way when you are sitting on a horse, and it is easy to put on.
