MH Spangenhelm - 16 gauge
This helmet comes from a small group of closely related Spangenhelms (strap helmets). The sites where they have been found are widely scattered, ranging from Sweden to Germany, the Balkans and Libya. The Spangenhelm was a popular medieval European combat helmet design of Late Antiquity and the Early Middle Ages. Over time Spangenhelms were replaced by one piece skulls like nasal helmets and kettle hats.

Norman Nasal Helm - 16 gauge
The Norman "Nasal" Helmet was based on earlier Viking Helmet designs and could be worn over a chainmail coif or with chainmail aventail to protect the neck. The nasal bar was designed to protect the face but meant that Knights were often unrecognisable. The famous Bayeux Tapestry shows William the Conqueror tipping his helmet back to reveal his face and prove to his soldiers that he was still alive!
