Viking Axes

Battle Axes were one of the most fearsome weapons used by the Viking and Anglo-Saxons alike. The shape of the axe head differed according to its purpose. Broad headed 2 handed axes that appeared towards the end of the period were specialised weapons that were almost a distinguishing mark of the Anglo-Danish Huscarls at the Battle of Hastings. Beaded Axes are sometimes identified as being specifically Nordic in origin. We offer a great rage of Viking Axes. From the broad bladed battle axes to the francisca style throwing axes we are sure to have an axe that suits your needs. We even stock axe heads with 3mm edges that are suitable for re-enactment.

  • Viking Dragon Axe

The battle axes of the High Middle Ages that were preferred by the Vikings are probably advanced developments of Frankish throwing axes. Their blades have straight upper edges, while the sharp edges were usually curved toward the handle. Their handles were too long to throw; instead, they were used in close combat with shields.

This Viking battle axe has a blade of hand forged carbon steel which is fastened to a hardwood handle. Both sides of the blade are etched with a decorative Celtic knot pattern that features a dragon's head.
