  • Niu Wei Dao

    Niu Wei Dao or "oxtail saber" originated in civilian circles sometime in the 19th century. They are characterized by having relatively thin blades that flare out near the tip, where they have a rounder cutting section than other Chinese saber types. The blade has a beautiful sweeping upward curve with a handle that curve downwards.

    This design is optimized for cutting soft targets, reflected the disappearance of armor on Chinese battlefield when firearms became more widespread.

    Niu Wei Dao is versatile, impressive looking and gain widespread use among local militia, security police, body guards and martial artists. This late Qing Dynasty design have made it known as the archetypical Chinese saber. This Niu Wei Dao is an exacting replica of a well preserved Qing Dynasty Niu Wei Dao.

  • Striking Eagle Chu Jian

    Striking Eagle is the longest (148 cm - 4' 10.26") double handed Chu Jian we craft. This is a sword for the sword master and appeals to discerning sword collectors looking to add one of the longest Chinese sword ever forged to their collection.

    Striking Eagle is modelled after the design of 2,000+ year old Chu double hand swords excavated during the 1950-1980 from tombs dating back 315 - 221 BC of the ancient Kingdom of Chu. We adopt the length of the longest Jian ever excavated in China, discovered in 1983 from the tomb of King Zhao Mo (D. 122 BC). 

    The blade had a subtle amalgamation of flexibility and rigidity.

    In the hand guard are two inscriptions in ancient bird-worm seal script of the word for gentleman warrior 士 "Shi". The blade have double wide groove fashioned after bronze swords showing the transitional design from bronze weapon to the first steel weapon. Sturdy and substantial hand feel in-spite of its light weight.

    Soaring Sky is based on a rare antique sample of an early Han Dynasty Jian. Soaring Sky represents a bridge between the 8 sided blade Chu Jian to the later 4 sided blade Han Jian. Soaring Sky has the beautiful eight sided cross-section inherited from Chu Jian with the long and slender profile of a classic Han Jian. Eight sided Han Jian is rare and usually find in tombs of royal family members and senior officials. The hilt has a rhomboid cross section profile for accurate edge alignment.
