Cathars Letter Opener and Shield Set
The Cathars—condemned as diabolical heretics by the Roman church—are often hailed as a manifestation of a separate, ‘primitive’ brand of Christianity. If you travel to towns like Toulouse, Albi, and Carcassonne today, you’ll see signs proclaiming the Pays Cathare, ‘Cathar country’ with prominent displays of the gold-and-red Cathar cross, which is misleading since they didn’t worship the cross.

Richard the Lionheart Sword Letter Opener
Richard I was king of England from 1189-99. He was the third of five sons of King Henry II of England and Duchess Eleanor of Aquitaine. He was known as Richard Cœur de Lion or Richard the Lionheart because of his reputation as a great military leader and warrior. Richard was a central Christian commander during the Third Crusade and scored considerable victories against his Muslim counterpart, Saladin, although he failed to re-take Jerusalem. He remains one of the few kings of England who is remembered by his epithet, rather than regnal number, and is an enduring iconic figure both in England and in France.
