Sire De Joinville was a French knight known for his bravery and his devotion to his King. During the 7th Crusade, Sire De Joinville was attacked by a Saracen after having already lost his lance. De Joinville avoided the first attack, tucked his sword under his arm as you would a lance, charged, and slew the Saracen. His valorous action inspired the choice of his name for this beautiful sword. They were very popular in France in the early 15th century.
The whole style of this blade is quite lovely, with elegant, simple lines that emphasize its style.

The blade is well formed, flexible without being whippy and has a lovely, lively balance. It's hollow ground rather than diamond cross-section and has a proper distal taper, both of which contribute to how light it is in the hand. The grip is wood and shows a lovely grain after some oiling. The scabbard is sturdy and functional, although won't win any awards for beauty.
My only minor gripes are with a couple of aspects of the finish; the peening on the hilt had just a small rough edge, and the "antiquing" treatment on the guard is ugly, honestly I don't know why they even bothered. Nothing that some sandpaper and polish didn't fix in short order, and at this price it seems almost unfair to bring them up at all, given how good the practical aspects are.
Overall a very impressive package at an excellent price. Gets my full recommendation both as a display piece and a functional weapon. (Posted on 04/05/2021) - The genuine articleReview by Tristan
