Our Red Dragon Combat “Bastard Sword” is designed to replicate a 13th-century longsword. The broad blade is designed for slashing, and excels at this when sharpened. The 1mm edge makes this sword useable for HEMA (drilling not sparring) and stage combat, although some light surface nicks are inevitable due to the thinness of the edge. If being used for either of these disciplines, we would recommend rounding off the tip for safety.

I purchased this sword after seeing a video by Matt Easton the YouTuber about swords on a budget, he mentions this sword early on in the video so I thought I’d have look.
First thing to say is this sword not budget in any way it’s quite amazing quality for the price well above what I was expecting.
My sword is flawless from the pommel to the tip of the blade everything is perfectly in line from the pommel to Guard to fullers everything is straight and true and tight the peen smooth and almost blended away.
The scabbard is also excellently well made of lovely leather and wood without a single blemish or scratch the belt is also of thick and strong leather.
Overall the quality of this sword is exceptional well above the pice.
I also had my sword sharpened by the knight shop
And wow when they say sharp they mean sharp,
No showing the sword the sharpener the putting it back in the box no not here mine was pretty much razor sharp.
Cheers knight shop 10/10 (Posted on 16/11/2022)

I really enjoy using this sword and training with it however the tip chipped quite easily which surprised me. Other than that a very very good sword that is worth the purchase. (Posted on 13/09/2021)

Love every aspect of this sword. The leather scabbard is very nicely detailed and the sword itself is perfectly done. I would just say the corners of the cross guard are a bit pointy/sharp but it's not a problem at all. It shipped very fast and was very neatly wrapped when it arrived as well. (Posted on 28/04/2021)

I have been collecting swords and weapons for 15 years, everything from rubbish wall hangers (my first swords) to expensive test cutters.
The value of this sword is incredible, the leather work alone would cost more than the entire thing if commissioned individually, I sharpened the sword myself and it’s produces a beautiful strong sharp edge, when you look down the blade you can see the forging marks, it adds great character to the blade, I often see videos about Albion blades being the best blah blah, don’t waste your money, get one of these, you cannot beat it for value, it is slightly blade heavy but it cuts beautifully and handles very well, I plan on getting another 3 of these over time I love it soo much. I had an issue with the scabbard but the team at the Sword shop handled it with no fuss and were extremely helpful. They are my first port of call for swords and blades. (Posted on 08/03/2021)
Good Sword, bad sharpeningReview by Igor

Overall, the sword looks magnificent and is definitely worth considering the price. However, there are some issues.

Scabbard has quite a few scratches and dents. Nothing major though. Crossguard and pommel have very minor imperfections but overall the sword is of good quality.

My biggest qualm though is the sharpening. I got it extra as I wanted the blade properly sharpened. However, it came out very uneven and worst of all, the tip and the last ~7cm of the blade is completely blunt. I wouldn't mention it if it was just badly sharpened but it is blunt as a practice sword and that is a bit disappointing. (Posted on 26/11/2020)

The Red Dragon Combat - Bastard Sword is my first and only sword, so although I don't have anything to compare to, the quality of this sword is very obvious.

This is an excellent sword, great weight to it and all the build materials are very good.

This is a brilliant starter sword and I whole heartily recommend this to anyone - you will not be disappointed !

As an aside, the staff @ TheKnightShop were very helpful as I had pre-ordered this sword and took many months to be delivered. They were very forth coming and clear with their communications during this process. (Posted on 24/11/2020)

I bought this sword on a whim, the aesthetics of it caught my eye and I was not disappointed. I love this sword, and feel it’s a great entry level sword, my only complaint is that maybe it could do with more weight in the pommel as it feels a little ‘blade happy’ (Posted on 24/04/2020)

Awesome sword. Feels great. Balans is a bit of, little further on the blade then expected, but for cutting its not a problem. Scabbard looks perfect, only a minor defect, there is a little scar on the leather. (Posted on 26/03/2020)
Great sword for the price Review by Lewis

Other than a few slight defects I have to say I'm very impressed with this sword.

First off the issues I have with the blade are a slight discoloration of the steel close to the top of the fuller on both sides of the blade as well as a couple of scratch marks on the crossguard I'm assuming were gained during the manufacturing process. Neither is a major concern especially considering the price and overall finish of the work.

Handles well in the cut if used with correct technique and edge alignment, due to the spring steel construction any mistake's in hand position will result in considerable vibration traveling through the blade. This is entirely dependent on user skill and I've found that with careful practice and patience it can be avoided.

Just received this product, came well wrapped and undamaged. Incredible quality considering the price. On one side of the blade the guard centre is slightly misaligned with the blade fuller but it is hardly noticeable unless viewed closely. Scabbard looks nice and holds the sword well. I bought it sharpened and managed to nick my thumb as i took it out of the wrapping so it's safe to say that extra service was worth it too! (Posted on 15/08/2019)
