The Red Dragon HEMA Synthetic Sparring Basket Hilt Sword has been designed and tested in conjunction with English Martial Arts Academy and we are grateful for their help with this. It is great for practising techniques from George Silver and Highland Broadsword fighting manuals and a great choice of weapon for people starting out in backsword systems.

I bought a pair of these about four years ago, and have used them near every week since - these are excellent trainers, far more affordable than any other basket hilted synthetic on the market and despite heavy and frequent usage there is no bend in the plastic, handle or blade. one blade did shatter at the tip and i lost about an inch off last year, but given that this happened from accidentally clipping concrete then i think the damage can be forgiven, the other sword is now showing minor damage towards the tip too, but given the price and age of these swords it does not take away from their quality for me.Price Value Quality
They also have a good amount of flex and weight, preventing them from being floppy while still remaining safe to use with fairly limited equipment in sparring, without sacrificing an unrealistic weight or balance.

I own two of these, they are used bi daily and have never failed yet. They have made excellent training choices for both military sabre technique and Scottish broadsword. I own other red dragon swords as well but have to admit these are my personal favourites and stand up well during sparring sessions. (Posted on 02/05/2018)Quality Price Value
