In the days of the Crusades, most knights wore surcoats as protection against the sun as well as a form of identification on the battlefield.

The Arkansas Toothpick is a famous knife that was widely used in North America during the 19th century. This impressive knife was allegedly invented by knife maker James Black, the man who made the first Bowie knife. The two knives have lent their names to the state of Arkansas, which is known as "The Toothpick State" and "The Bowie State."
