It can be worn over a gambeson or below a jack and is the perfect piece to finish your mercenary outfit. This handcrafted steel and brass Castilla & Leon Breastplate by Marto of Toledo is a one-piece solid construction of armour that covers the entire front of the torso.

This type of breastplate was typical of the Spanish armoury in the 16th century and was mainly worn by foot soldiers.

This steel armour is enhanced by riveted brass plates surrounding an oval relief emblem in the center of the breastplate. The relief emblem is that of the coat-of-arms for the Castilla & Leon region of Spain and is accompanied by two fleur de lis, one on either side.

It belongs to the end of the 14^th Century and was produced in an area that would eventually be famous for making the much prized Milanese Armour of the 15^th Century.
