Pronounced ‘scar-dee’, Skadi is a giantess and Goddess of winter in Norse mythology.

Skadi lives in the highest reaches of the mountains, where the snow never melts. She’s an avid huntress, and her bow, snowshoes and skis are her most often-mentioned attributes.

This mead is a ‘hydromel’ (pure honey mead), using Blossom honey. This gives it a medium sweet taste and is suitable for drinkers of white wine and slightly dry cider and also for the purists among mead drinkers.

Can be served however you wish –chilled, over ice, room temperature or warm. Loves to be paired with desserts.

Odin is the ‘Allfather’ in Norse mythology. He is the God of battle and also of wisdom, magic, and poetry.

His name means ‘fury’ or ‘frenzy’, the quality of fierce inspiration that guided warriors and poets alike.

He is also a relentless seeker and giver of wisdom. This mead is a traditional ‘Metheglin’ (herbed honey mead). The tannins give the mead a more ‘full bodied’ flavour, making it a firm favourite for drinkers who like oaked red wine, real ales or casked whiskey. We achieve this remarkable flavour simply by adding tea to the fermentation process. This gives the Mead a Whiskey-esque top palette.

Ægir (Old Norse for “sea”) is a sea giant, God of the ocean and King of the sea creatures in Norse mythology. He is also known for hosting elaborate parties for the gods.

Ægir and his NINE daughters brewed (the best ever) ale in a large pot. This mead is a ‘Tannined Melomel’ (fruited honey mead). This is the most traditional ‘basic’ mead recipe. We achieve this amazing flavour simply by adding tea and orange juice to the fermentation process.

The addition of orange juice and tea gives the tannined, full bodied flavour, a slightly softer and fruitier taste, making it a firm favourite with drinkers across the board.

Freya (Old Norse meaning ‘Lady’) is one of the pre-eminent Goddesses in Norse mythology. She is the Goddess associated with love, beauty, fertility, war, wealth, divination and magic.

This mead is a ‘Melomel’ (fruited honey mead) using Wildflower honey. It is wild fermented (no yeast is added – we use the natural yeast present in the honey) and has freshly squeezed orange juice added to the fermentation process.

The addition of orange juice gives it a slightly softer and fruitier taste, making it a firm favourite with drinkers of cider and medium sweet white wines.

Baldur is the second son of Odin and Frigg. A bold warrior, yet one of the favourite of the Aesir Gods.

Baldur is often interpreted as the God of love, peace, forgiveness, justice, light and purity. This mead is a DRY ‘Hydromel’ (pure honey mead) using Wildflower honey. To give it a dry finish, we simply use slightly less honey. By using the wildflower honey, it gives it a deeper, earthier flavour but without the sweet edge.

This mead is wild fermented (no yeast is added) and shows the delicate intricacies of the honey, giving this mead a very busy flavour, yet pleasant sensation.

Jarl is a Scandinavian Chieftain or Nobleman. Originally a limited release in 2020, to raise money for Checkemlads/TesticularCancerUK, it became so popular we have decided to keep it as a permanent fundraiser and the charity will change each year.  For 2021, we are supporting ManHealth who provides mental health support to men in the North East. Jarl’s mead has chili flakes added after the fermentation process. This gives it an immediate hit, followed by a nice warming flavour, suitable for anyone who likes a bit of warmth with their alcohol.

This mead is a ‘Metheglin’ (herbed honey mead), using Blossom honey. It has freshly made elderflower cordial added to the fermentation process.

The elderflowers are picked by our own fair hands from a lovely spot just a hop, skip and a jump away from the meadery. Within 24 hours, they are de-stemmed and boiled into a cordial which is then added to the honey to begin fermenting.

The addition of elderflowers gives it a smooth and floral taste that has converted a number of non-elderflower lovers!

This flavour is a firm favourite with drinkers of Gin and Elderflower wine and champagne.

Krampus joins St Nic in his yearly visit. Whilst St Nicholas rewards the good with gifts and treats, Krampus punishes the bad.

In some cases, he leaves coal, but the naughtier ones are stuffed into his sack to be carried away to hell.

The addition of festive spices to the original Ægir recipe, produces a unique taste identical to that of mince pies!

Due to the spices contained within this mead, it is the only light recipe that does not like being served cold.

Enjoy at room temperature or warmed in place of a mulled wine. Loves being added to chicken and fish dishes, stir-frys or cakes.

Thor is the thunder God in Norse mythology. His courage and sense of duty are unshakeable. His most famous possession is his hammer, Mjöllnir (‘Lightning’).

For the heathen Scandinavians, just as thunder was the embodiment of Thor, lightning was the embodiment of his hammer slaying giants. This mead is a ‘Metheglin’ (herbed honey mead), using Blossom honey.

It has citra hops added after the fermentation process. This gives it a light, hoppy flavour suitable for the craft beer drinkers amongst us.
