  • Bamboo Mat Katana

    2 Review(s)

Our Bamboo Mat Katana features a chu-kissaki blade of Hanwei's own high-alloy HWS-2S steel, which combines impressive performance with a striking O-choji hamon. This steel is made in Hanwei's new factory, with high-tech equipment, producing a very pure, advanced-metallurgy blade with excellent edge-holding capability and resilience.

The fittings on the katana feature a bamboo-themed black iron tsuba, textured in a bamboo mat design with a jointed bamboo rim and highlighted with gold-tipped bamboo leaves. The fuchi/kashira follow the same theme and the golden menuki feature a pair of sparrows. The saya is finished in high-gloss lacquer with horn fittings.

Please note: Our range of katana, wakizashi and tantō are all made by hand and will feature the minor imperfections relating to this method of manufacture. This process ensures each piece is as unique as their historical counterparts.

  • Oni Bainite Katana

Our Bainite blade is a structure of high-carbon steel that combines great strength with excellent flexibility and shock absorption characteristics. It has been known as an exemplary Katana blade component for a number of years but its use has been restricted to a few top-class master smiths, due to the difficulties involved in performing the exacting heat treatment procedures necessary for the production of a Bainite blade body in combination with the very hard Martensite Yakiba (edge section) required for Katana blades.

Hanwei has now mastered this difficult process, using billets of L-6 tool steel (a very tough high-carbon low-alloy steel) as a starting point for this katana. Blades are forged and shaped in the normal way, then carefully heat treated to achieve the required Bainite and Martensite structures before final polishing.

Please note: Our range of katana, wakizashi and tantō are all made by hand and will feature the minor imperfections relating to this method of manufacture. This process ensures each piece is as unique as their historical counterparts.

  • Practical Katana

The ever-popular Practical Katana gives the martial artist the opportunity to own and use a Hanwei sword at the cost of an economy katana sword. The blades are forged and differentially hardened, using the same process as the more expensive katana blades and producing an HRC60 edge and HRC40 back. The temper line is authentic and prominent. Cost savings are effected by using fittings which, while making no claims to authenticity, are very strongly built to withstand the rigors of cutting exercises in the dojo. The Practical Wakizashi (SH2061) and Practical Tanto (SH2254) match the katana and provide a useful and economical set.

Please note: Our range of katana, wakizashi and tantō are all made by hand and will feature the minor imperfections relating to this method of manufacture. This process ensures each piece is as unique as their historical counterparts. The main focus of the Practical Range is the blade. The fittings, although well made, do not have the same attention to detail found on more expensive lines. The Ito (handle wrap) may have a different number and proximity of diamonds to those shown in the picture.

  • Raptor Katana - Nambokucho Zukuri

    1 Review(s)

The Nanbochuko period in Japanese history (the latter part of the 14th. century) encompassed sixty years of internal conflict in Japan, which spawned a demand for more and bigger sword blades than ever produced previously. Blades became longer and wider, sometimes to extremes (the Odachi had its genesis in this period). Named for this period, the Nanbokucho Katana is impressively sized. With a blade length of 30”, a long kissaki and a weight of just under 3 lbs. it is designed for heavy targets. It is, however, surprisingly agile and nimble enough to master double cuts.

Please note: Our range of katana, wakizashi and tantō are all made by hand and will feature the minor imperfections relating to this method of manufacture. This process ensures each piece is as unique as their historical counterparts.

    Total length: 113cm

    Edge: Sharp
    Scabbard: Black Lacquer Wood Saya
