The gladius was the sword of choice for the Roman legions, and many gladiators also chose to use the double-edged sword when they were fighting for their freedom and lives in the Colosseum. After a gladiator in ancient Rome had won his freedom, he was awarded a wooden gladius like this one, called a Rudis, as a symbol of his freedom. Our Rudis is a great retirement gift for military personnel or police officers.
Our training gladius is based on the classic Roman gladius and made entirely of hardwood. The pommel and guard are darker for visual interest. If you plan to use this wooden gladius as a training sword, be careful: the blade is made of wood but it does have a sharp point.

Bought mainly as a display piece, I was very impressed with the look, feel and quality, especially considering the price.Quality Price Value
With the different wood making for a nice contract its very nice sitting on show, but can easily be grabbed for some light usage. It will go through cardboard with relative ease, so can be practised with, not sure how it would hold up with some more 'intense' sword vs sword sparing but still tough one.
Overall very impressed and happy with the purchase. Lovely smooth finish on the whole sword and a great display (and usable) piece. Excellent price aswell. (Posted on 08/01/2018)
