Windlass Steelcrafts

The Knight Shop is a distributor for Windlass Steelcrafts and the premier retailer of Windlass Swords for sale in the UK. Windlass Swords (Windlass Steelcrafts), are based in India and are one of the oldest sword manufacturers still in production. They were established in 1943 to supply kukris to the British Army. Over the decades they have expanded to become one of the largest suppliers of military swords in the world. They are also well known for making high quality licensed replicas of swords, armour and historical clothing seen in Hollywood movies.

Their swords are forged from high quality, high carbon steel and tempered with the most advanced heat treating process available. They are flexible, well balanced and lightweight making them ideal for practicing historical swordplay techniques. Windlass Swords are durable and are either of threaded or peened construction with the tang forged as part of the blade. They are blunt and have a 1mm edge although sharpening service is available on these swords.

  • Crusader Knight's Surcoat

Tabards were worn over chainmail to protect the metal from the elements such as the blistering heat of the sun and rust inducing rain. They were also worn to display the wearer’s coat of arms or affiliations so that they could be easily identified on the battlefield and in tournaments.

Our Crusader Knight’s Tabard is handcrafted from 100% cotton and is finished in heraldic blue and yellow colours adorned with Crusader crosses on the chest. It is usually worn with a belt which is not supplied – but there are plenty to choose from in our “Belts” category. Great for LARP or fancy dress!

  • Sailor’s Drawstring Pants - Black

Regardless of whether you're throwing out a grappling hook, hanging in the shrouds or caulking the deck – when you're at sea, you need comfortable trousers. Let these drawstring pants billow out or bind them around your legs – if you tuck them into your boots, you can even wear them as riding trousers. The lightweight fabric means they are even comfortable in the summer. Adjust them to fit your figure perfectly with the drawstring at the waist.  Available in Black or Brown black or brown.

  • Roman Tunic

This red tunic is based on a Roman legionary's standard issue toward the end of the Roman Empire (approx. 400 A.D.). It can be worn beneath armour and as normal outerwear as well. Thanks to its simple, classic cut, characters from other historical eras can also wear this red tunic.

It is made of sturdy cotton fabric, which means it is comfortable and you'll be able to use it for a long time. The sleeves also feature a tassel detail. The Romans copied the red colour from the Spartans for a good reason. The soldiers wore red so their enemies would never see that they were bleeding!

PLEASE NOTE: NO WARRANTY IS OFFERED WITH THIS PRODUCT. IF YOUR WASTER BREAKS, NO REPLACEMENT WILL BE OFFERED AS THE MANUFACTURER WILL NOT SUPPLY US WITH A REPLACEMENT. IF YOU WANT A MORE DURABLE WASTER PLEASE PURCHASE OUR SYNTHETIC SPARRING SWORDS.

The gladius was the sword of choice for the Roman legions, and many gladiators also chose to use the double-edged sword when they were fighting for their freedom and lives in the Colosseum. After a gladiator in ancient Rome had won his freedom, he was awarded a wooden gladius like this one, called a Rudis, as a symbol of his freedom. Our Rudis is a great retirement gift for military personnel or police officers.

Our training gladius is based on the classic Roman gladius and made entirely of hardwood. The pommel and guard are darker for visual interest. If you plan to use this wooden gladius as a training sword, be careful: the blade is made of wood but it does have a sharp point.
