  • Red Dragon Combat - Viking Sword (3mm Edge)

    2 Review(s)

These latest additions to the Red Dragon Combat Range feature 3mm re-enactment safe edges and rounded tips. The blades are formed from tempered high-carbon steel (HRC Core of approx 48 and Edge 50-52) and fullered to ensure they are swift in the hand. Indeed a lot of time and effort has gone into make these blades as agile as possible whilst retaining a re-enactment safe edge.

The steel hilt fittings neatly sandwich the leather wrapped wooden grip and are held in place by a traditional peened tang. The leather wrapped wooden scabbard features a protective rain guard and metal chape. If you are part of a re-enactment group we recommend consulting your safety officer for guidance before purchase.

    1 Review(s)

Our Hersir Viking Sword is a historically accurate replica of a Viking Sword. This style of Viking era sword is referred to as a Type H hilt in Petersen's Typology and has a triangular pommel. It seems this type is typically thought to have been found extensively in Norway, but as far south as Switzerland and Yugoslavia, and that the type H seems to have been in use around the late 8th c. to into the 10th.

The Hersir Viking Sword features a pommel and upper guard made in two parts, riveted together, with a twisted wire between the pommel and upper guard. The high carbon steel blade is housed in a leather and wood scabbard.

  • Five Lobe Viking Sword

Our 5 Lobe Viking Sword is based on a late Viking design from around the 11th century and is contemporary with the Battle of Stamford Bridge in 1066. A similar sword held in the British Museum collection was reputed to be taken from the tomb of the Earl of Pembroke in Temple Church, but was probably found in the River Thames at Temple Church.

It features a forged and fullered steel blade designed for hacking and slashing and is hilted with a short guard and 5 lobed pommel. The wooden scabbard is wrapped with brown leather to match that of the leather wrapped sword grip. Although this sword has a forged blade it is not tempered and is not suitable for combat.

Our Practical Viking Swords are all based on authentically styled swords in our collection but they are tailored to meet the needs of re-enactment and stage combat. These very popular and affordable weapons feature authentic hilt styling, with fully tempered un-edged and un-pointed blades. They are designed to withstand rugged use while providing the level of safety required by many of today’s re-enactment societies.

The lobate pommel and down-turned guard are typical of Viking swords of the period, as is the broad blade with its deep, full-length fullers. The sword is well-balanced and, with a weight slightly over 2 lbs, it is very quick.

  • Stage Combat Hersir Viking Sword

Our Stage Combat swords feature tempered, high carbon steel blades and are designed for light combat use. They have durable, thick edges, more than suitable for the rigours of stage combat and display fights. They also feature rounded tips for extra safety. Stage Combat swords are noticeably heavier than historical replicas due to the added weight afforded by the thicker edges. These swords are not designed for re-enactment use.

This style of Viking era sword is referred to as a Type H hilt in Petersen's Typology and has a triangular pommel. It seems this type is typically thought to have been found extensively in Norway, but as far south as Switzerland and Yugoslavia, and that the type H seems to have been in use about latter 8th c. to into the 10th.

  • Isle of Eigg Viking Sword

The hilt of the Isle of Eigg Sword is the finest example of a Viking sword hilt ever found in Scotland and currently resides on the National Museums of Scotland collection. It was discovered on the island of Eigg in the Inner Hebrides by a local farmer whilst levelling a mound. The mound is thought to have contained a pagan burial and also contained bronze bucket mounts, a whetstone and some pieces of the original blade.

Our Isle of Eigg Sword replica features a double-edged blade with wide central fuller. The grip, guard and pommel are made of cast bronze. The unsharpened blade is made of well-tempered mild steel and is peened at the pommel for durability. It comes complete with a leather-wrapped wooden scabbard with similar bronze fittings.

  • Seax of Beagnoth

    8 Review(s)

On one side of the blade is the only known complete inscription of the twenty-eight letter Anglo-Saxon runic alphabet, as well as the name "Beagnoth" in runic letters. It is thought that the runic alphabet had a magical function, and that the name Beagnoth is that of either the owner of the weapon or the smith who forged it.

Although many Anglo-Saxon and Viking swords and knives have inscriptions in the Latin alphabet on their blades, or have runic inscriptions on the hilt or scabbard, the Seax of Beagnoth is one of only a handful of finds with a runic inscription on its blade.

  • British Infantry Officer's Sword - 1796 Pattern

When the British Army standardized the swords to be carried by infantry officers in 1796 this is the sword they settled on; a spadroon-like cut-and-thrust sword with simple, but elegant Georgian styling that hearkened back to the Smallswords carried by gentlemen in earlier times. In just four years following, the blade was at the hip of practically all British Line Infantry Officers. Regardless of the standardization of form, the blades varied in their width and in their engraved decoration.

Though widespread, it was not regarded as a good combat blade despite being used through the entirety of Britain’s contests with France in the Napoleonic Era. It would not be officially replaced until 1822 by the more elaborate ‘’Gothic-Hilted’’ sword and before then many officers had opted to acquire the 1803 Pattern sabre instead.
