Pikeman’s Cabasset Helmet - 16 gauge
Extracted directly from the engravings, we've interpreted and reproduced this beautiful cabasset. It is ideal for 17th century re-enactment from the English Civil War era. In the engravings, pikemen can be seen wearing this protection combined with a breastplate (MH-A0798).They can also be seen on arquebus troops and are represented in the art of other places and on other troops. The cheek plates included were used to protect the neck and face of the wearer and became a common feature of the age.

Spanish Comb Morion - 14 gauge
The Morion Helmet was popular with the foot soldiers of European armies in the 16th and 17th centuries. It is thought to have originated in Spain and would certainly have been worn by soldiers of the Spanish Armada. This style of helmet is associated with soldiers of the English Civil War where it was commonly known as a "Pikeman's Pot".

They were predominantly worn by the soldiers of Cromwell's New Model Army, along with breastplates and buff coats. Surviving morions from the siege of Colchester Castle in 1648 have been unearthed within its grounds and are now preserved in the castle. Some of the best-preserved morions from the English Civil War can now be seen in the Royal Armouries collection in Leeds.

Viking Spangenhelm with Nose Guard
This Spangenhelm cabasset with reinforced straps is inspired by those used by the Scandinavian people, specifically by the well-known Vikings. It stands out for its stylized design in the form of eyebrows or inverted Drakkar, which gives it a great showiness while protecting the forehead.

MH Kettle Hat - 14 gauge
The Kettle Hat was favoured by the English infantryman and man at arms throughout the medieval period and was popular during the 100 Years War. It was simple to manufacture and offered good protection against projectiles. This design was so effective that it came back into service with the British military in World War 1 and 2. The name derives from the Germanic word “cetel” or “cietel” alluding to its deep cauldron like shape. It was also known as a “war hat” and “Chapel-de-fer” (hat of iron).

Swiss Sallet - 16 gauge - Medium
The sallet was a war helmet that replaced the bascinet in Italy, western and northern Europe and Hungary during the mid-15th century. In Italy, France and England the armet helmet was also popular, but in Germany, the sallet became almost universal.

Sometimes knights will prioritise protection over vision for obvious reasons. The Topfhelm (literally Pot Helmet) has evolved from the less protective spangenhelm, and there is eveidence of its use during the late medieval ages.

Sangüesa Transitional Helm - 14 gauge
There are several examples of conical helmets with large facial visors. This one in particular is based on one found in the magnificent Romanesque portico of the church of Santa María la Real, in Sangüessa (Navarra). In the exterior archivolt you can see the professions of medieval society, including two armed men. One of them wearing a helmet like the one shown here. Other very similar ones can be seen in some codices of the same period.

Phrygian Nasal Helm - 14 gauge
The Norman "Nasal" Helmet was based on earlier Viking Helmet designs and could be worn over a chainmail coif or with chainmail aventail to protect the neck.

The nasal bar was designed to protect the face but meant that Knights were often unrecognisable. The famous Bayeux Tapestry shows William the Conqueror tipping his helmet back to reveal his face and prove to his soldiers that he was still alive!
