Used from the 12th to the 18th century, the buckler achieved a deserved reputation as both a defensive and offensive arm. Indispensable in both classical rapier play and I.33 sparring, it has become an essential part of the modern swordsman's equipment. Crafted in 14 gauge steel, all of our bucklers have rolled edges and come in three sizes to meet individual needs. This version features radial reinforcing plates. The steel tube grip is securely riveted to the body of the buckler.

The "Talhoffer" buckler is well known from Talhoffer's "Fechtbuch" illustrations. The unusual curled holly-leaf shape, with its fluting and spikes, is a fairly radical departure from the norm but it serves well as a memento of this famous fight master.

These latest additions to the Red Dragon Combat Range feature 3mm re-enactment safe edges and rounded tips. The blades are formed from tempered high-carbon steel (HRC Core of approx 48 and Edge 50-52 and fullered to ensure they are swift in the hand. Indeed a lot of time and effort has gone into make these blades as agile as possible whilst retaining a re-enactment safe edge. 

The steel hilt fittings neatly sandwich the leather wrapped wooden grip and are held in place by a traditional peened tang. The leather wrapped wooden scabbard features a protective rain guard and metal chape. Our Temple Church sword is a replica of a sword found in the River Thames in London. The sword, forged in the period between 1300-1350, was discovered opposite Temple Church, the headquarters of the Knights Templar in England.

During the 14th century, the gardens of the Temple in London ran down to the river’s edge where this sword was discovered. The discovery location, coupled with the crosses in the pommel, suggests that it is a Templar knight’s sword thrown into the river when the Order of the Temple was dissolved by Edward II in 1314.
